The River Den | Bootsverleih in Chelsea

The River Den is a 4 season houseboat, docked outside the village of Wakefield, Qc on the Gatineau River. This dream boat is a rustic artisanal floating tiny house, without hot water, shower or electricity. There's a cozy airtight woodstove for year round stays, cooking facilities and a dry composting toilet on board.

The Den is 33 feet long with 23 feet of inside cabin space. The Den has a cozy 'Jotul' wood stove and a second story sleeping loft with a very comfortable queen size bed. The loft has a steel grill floor feature, great for fresh air and heat circulation and for letting the sunlight into the main cabin from above! There is a full carpeted roof top deck, perfect for stargazing, yoga or suntanning and a front deck with a swimming ladder. The boat has 3 eight foot patio doors and 2 circular windows, a custom steering wheel and many more handmade rustic features!

There is no 120v electricity on the boat (which means no regular plug in electricity). There is a USB charging port connected to our solar system which you can use to charge phones.

On bord is a Seperett dry compost toilet.

There are no locks on the boat from the outside. Only from the inside (poles to lock the patio doors in place). It's a very quiet and safe place.

THE BOAT WILL BE DOCKED AND GUESTS CANNOT DRIVE IT.

The boat is on the Gatineau River; great swimming and fishing. Also there is an expedition shop (Expeditions Wakefield) 4 kms down the road which rents kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, bikes, snowshoes, skis and more.

Please note there are steep steps leading down to the boat. Wear appropriate footwear! High heels not recommended;)

We supply:
-firewood, kindling, newspaper for starting fire
-drinking water from the Wakefield spring
-coffee and tea (no cream :)
-oil, salt, pepper, sugar and coffee whitener
- fuel for cooking stove and BBQ
-a working fridge in the warmer season. A cooler in the winter months.

4 SEASON STAYS:
The houseboat is fully insulated and has double pane windows all around. Making for a very cozy time all year long. It's very comfortable in the winter months. Bring some slippers or big socks as the floor can be chilly in the mornings if the fire has gone out overnight.

The steps down to the boat can be slippery if there is rain or snow so please arrive in appropriate footwear.

In the winter months there is no running water, but the drain in the sink still works ( we disconnect the plumbing and run the kitchen drain into a pail, which we empty in the forest) therefore guests can still do dishes, etc. We ask that guests warm a pot of water on the woodstove to have hot water for doing dishes to make sure they are shiny for the next guests!

Guest access
Guests have full access of the entire boat.
The nature trail we use to access the River Den is NOT for high heels : ) We recommend smart footwear as the trail down is narrow and steep.
Other things to note
The boat is no longer moored in the village of Wakefield across from the Kafe 1870. We have since moved the River Den downstream at a permanent mooring location which is very private and much more quiet.

Please note the following:
No electricity
No running water in the winter
No fridge in the winter (we do provide a cooler with ice packs )
There is a camping 2-burner stove and BBQ for cooking, as well as pots and pans and a bodum for coffee.
