Casa Vanilla Sky lies halfway between historic Penne and Loreto Aprutino, famous for fantastic olive oil and local wines.
We have fantastic views of the Gran Sasso. Beautiful sunsets inspired us to choose the name for our home. With unpolluted air here it also amazing for clear skies at night - star gazing is incredible here.
Our secluded villa is well equipped with 4 bedrooms (3 with zip and link super king beds which separate into full size singles when needed and a twin bedroom) plus 2 bathrooms. The two top floor bedrooms each have a large private terrace. All windows have flyscreens and each bedroom has a ceiling fan and a good quality portable fan. The villa has a spacious open plan living room, diner, kitchen with dishwasher and all modern conveniences.
Egyptian cotton bedding, towels and pool/beach towels are supplied.
In Italy it's all about being outside. Set in one hectare of private grounds we have two large outdoor terraced areas on the ground floor of the villa; to the front we have a covered terrace plus a large wooden decking area (6 x 8m) ideal for exercising/yoga or extending outdoor living space. To the rear we have another covered terrace and pergola, plus a 200 sqm patio surrounding a 12 x 5m salt water swimming pool with solar shower. The pool is open from May (opening date dependant on weather) until end of September and possibly October if warm enough. There is plenty of room to relax, eat alfresco and cook on our outdoor kitchen with barbecue, sink and double gas burner.
The villa will ideally suit a large/multi generational family or group of friends, alternatively cycling groups are welcome. There are many cycling routes locally - I often see groups of cyclists go past our property towards Vestea and onwards to the Gran Sasso. (Abruzzo often features on the Giro D'Italia route). We have a large garage for storage.
Our deck has a beautiful sunrise view and is amazing for those who are early risers, or it can be used for al fresco dining under the stars.
My husband and I and our two Bretons live on site in an apartment beneath the villa and we do our best to be discreet during your stay. We will clean the pool when needed early in the morning. The dogs are a friendly, gentle breed and have their own garden area and have minimal contact with guests.
With rich fertile land, Abruzzo has many rare species of flora and fauna including birds of prey, bears, chingali (wild boar). I regularly see red kites and buzzards flying over our land. Rare species of orchid can be found growing wild in the orchard here. Farming is the main occupation here and our immediate neighbours are the Tenuta De Melis vineyard and an olive grove. Lamb is never very far from the menu here, the Abbruzzese love Arrosticini (skewered lamb kebabs) and it's quite usual to see a shepherd with his flock at the far end of our garden. Trattoria serve local wine and locally reared meat.
If you wish to travel whilst in Abruzzo there are many places to visit: the Gran Sasso and Majella mountain ranges are not to be missed. The adriatic coastline is amazing, Pineto to the north, Lanciano and Vasto to the south (the Trabocchi coast) are just a few of the coastal places to visit. If it's history and culture there are many mediaeval towns such as Citta Sant Angelo and Atri within easy reach. Rome is possible with train and Flixbus/Prontobus connections.
The famous Pecorino cheese is made locally and a trip to see it being made in Farindola is worthwhile, plus local vineyards are easily accessible.
