Set in the heart of West Cornwall this handsome large Georgian detached family home offers spacious relaxed accommodation with private parking and a wonderful enclosed and sunny walled garden. Set in this sleepy rural village close to some of the far west’s most spectacular coastlines it’s in the perfect spot to get away from the crowds whilst being in easy reach of some of the area’s best beaches and attractions.
Wayside House is furnished with comfort in mind. Its spacious and homely character makes a great place for family get-togethers or smaller parties wanting space and to get away. Upstairs you’ll find two spacious king-sized bedrooms as well as a smaller double bedroom overlooking the garden and a bunk room for little ones. The family bathroom has a separate shower and extra-large bath to soak away. Downstairs the living areas are spacious with the kitchen opening onto to the dining room making it perfect for social evenings in. The living room with its cosy wood burner is the perfect place for enjoying a film together. Downstairs is a large cloak room and shower room which is very handy for after a day’s surfing with separate access from the garden.
Wayside House is the ideal family holiday, or relaxed couple’s retreat in the Far West of Cornwall. You'll love coming home to your peaceful and private garden, or light the wood burner to relax and unwind at the end of the day.
There are fantastic walks from the doorstep and beautiful coastal walks, with plenty of dog friendly beaches nearby! If you’re bringing your four-legged friend they will be in heaven. With a fully enclosed garden and a patio area, the secluded sunny garden is lovely for BBQs on a summer evening when it’s just too good to be inside.
LOCATION
Located in the community village of St Buryan with a well-stocked local shop and pub, with easy access to some of the best the Far West has to offer you’re a short drive from Porthcurno, famously known for the Minack Theatre, and in the other direction from Sennen and Gwenver, great surfing beaches.
Agriculture is strong in St Buryan with a farm shop selling local produce and there are regular summer festivities as well as a thriving young farmers club. The nearby village of Treen has a lovely pub, The Logan Rock, and access to one of Cornwall’s most photographed beaches at the impossibly stunning Pedn Vounder. There’s also the tiny, yet still functioning, fishing village of Penberth which is lovely to walk around and a wooded valley just south of St Buryan leads to St Loy which has a beautiful cove of rounded rocks. Lamorna with its well-known pottery is also nearby. Penzance and Newlyn with a wide range of shops, cafes and facilities are a short drive away. These include the Art Deco Jubilee Pool in Penzance, the independent Newlyn cinema and art gallery.
LIVING
The light and airy living room centres around the wood burner in the feature fireplace (in season we will leave you enough logs to get you going for a night or two). There are two comfortable sofas and an armchair as well as a couple of bean bags to relax into after a day of exploring. The TV is perfect for family film nights. Or gather everyone together for a board game and plan your next day's adventures.
COOKING & EATING
The kitchen at Wayside House is fabulous and equipped with everything you need to cook up a feast. Overlooking the garden and opening up to both the utility area and the dining room, it’s a great social space with a large fridge freezer, inset 5 ring gas hob and ‘Hotpoint’ double electric oven, ensuring you can welcome the whole family to dinner. The dining table seats eight comfortably and the open nature of the kitchen and dining room allows conversations to flow all evening long. On that subject – if you’d like a special event catered for do ask, we have some fantastic local contacts.
SLEEPING
Each of the four bedrooms has its own character and all offer excellent mattresses and crisp white linen for a great night’s sleep.
Bedroom 1: Overlooks the front garden and has a super king bed, wardrobe, chests of drawers, bedside table and second chest of drawers, two bedside lamps.
Bedroom 2: Overlooks the front garden and has a king-sized bed, chests of drawers, two bedside tables and bedside lamps and open hanging.
Bedroom 3: Overlooks the rear garden and has a double bed, storage chest, bedside table and bedside lamp and open hanging.
Bedroom 4: Overlooks the front garden and has a bunk bed, open hanging and child’s reading chair.
BATHING
There are two bath/shower rooms at Wayside. The first is a downstairs shower room which has a large ‘Redring’ shower, basin, W.C. and heated towel rail.
The main family bathroom is upstairs and overlooks the garden with countryside views. Step out of the free-standing bath onto the underfloor heating and grab a warm towel from the heated towel rail. There’s also a corner shower, basin and W.C.
OUTSIDE
The sunny and private back garden is fully enclosed with various shrubs and plants and is perfect for children and dogs. The decking and slated patio areas are perfect for evening BBQs when it’s just too good to be inside.
The house is set back from the road behind a pretty front garden which is walled with a slate driveway, parking, double electric socket and an outside tap, perfect for washing off muddy paws, sandy toes and boots.
UTILITY ROOM
A utility room off the kitchen has everything needed to make this feel like a home from home, including: built in shelving storage, washing machine and tumble dryer.
USEFUL TO KNOW...
PARKING: Parking for two cars. You are set back off the road leading into St Buryan so need to take care driving in and out of the driveway.
WI-FI: There is free Wi-Fi.
HEATING: Oil fired central heating and hot water throughout and a cosy log burner in the living area.
PETS: Far West Cornwall is doggie heaven! There’s plenty of beaches and coast paths for exploring. One or two well-behaved dogs are welcome at £35 per week/short break. Please make sure they stay out of bedrooms and off the furniture and that you rub down muddy/sandy feet before they come in.
LINEN & TOWELS: You'll have bedding & towels but please bring your own beach towels.

CHANGEOVER DAY & SHORT BREAKS: Wayside House usually changes on a Friday. Short breaks are available for a minimum of three or four nights arriving on a Friday or Monday out of season. Do check with us if your dates don't quite fit as we will always try to help.
