Situated within the walls of the village our house offers visitors a relaxed, peaceful & historic holiday experience. The Garden Studio, so called for its access straight into the garden with its own private area directly outside the kitchen double doors, offers the perfect chance to enjoy easy yet comfortable French living. With a log burner for cooler months and huge glass patio doors, this is a wonderful retreat throughout the year. The Garden Studio, entered through the glass patio doors from the garden, has a fully equipped fitted kitchen, and a dining area with delightful views back into the garden. An imposing archway leads into the lounge with its comfortable furniture a log burner and a front door for easy access to the village.

At the other end of this delightful room and under the original wooden beams is the sleeping area. With clever design and furniture placement, although actually one large room, this feels like 2 separate areas. The sleeping area has a king size double bed (can be made into twin beds to suit all requirements), chest of drawers and a wardrobe for all your storage. A shower room leads off this end of the room, with a large fully tiled Italian walk in shower, WC & vanity sink unit.

During the renovations, plans were drawn up to make this a one bedroom apartment but when the demolition work unearthed a beautiful hidden stone arch and numerous wooden beams we decided we simply couldn't cover any of these features up with a wall! And so the Garden Studio was born. Free wifi (Fibre 500mb) available.

The apartment also includes access to the communal garden. One of the few houses within the village walls to have a garden - a little piece of paradise can be found. With its beautiful grassy lawn, 3 BBQ areas, a hot plate plancha, a pizza oven, 5 terraces & solar heated secure pool with sun deck, spending time in the communal garden will be high on your list of priorities.

THE HOUSE: During the renovations, the house unveiled many historic secrets associated with the Cathars. There are 15 authentic stone arches scattered throughout the property and many 13th century paintings were uncovered. The latter are currently under restoration with the first paintings unveiled in the village Maison de Patrimone (September 2014) revealing 20 chevaliers including one that depicts the coat of arms for Simon de Montfort who was hated in the Languedoc for his cruelty and ambition towards the Cathars; you are sure to feel you have taken a step back in time! However, with all mod cons and a comfortable feel to the living accommodation in the self catering gîte, it is history at its best! With arguably the most spectacular façade in the village, Neuf Rue de Cancans really is a gem nestled within the cobbled streets of a village voted 'One of Frances Prettiest'

LAGRASSE: Lagrasse is a lively and welcoming village nestled in the hollow of a valley with the Orbieu river winding through this historic marvel. A walk in this historic village reveals cobblestone streets flanked by historic houses,15 of them protected under the Historical monuments including the Maison du Patrimoine displaying painted ceilings dating from the 13th century. A roman bridge will lead you to Sainte Marie d’Orbieu Abbey whose origins date back to the 7th century, part of which is still inhabited by monks and can be visited. The village hosts many artisans and has been listed since 2004 as ‘Cities and Crafts,’ a lively market can be found every Saturday at the medieval Place de la Halle and the boulevard opens up to restaurants and bars where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere of this very special village under the shade of the trees.

CATHER TRAIL: As Lagrasse nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the Cathar Trail there is an abundance of historic sightseeing to be done within the region.

Water Sports: Lagrasse has a small river beach which is a fun place to spend time relaxing and excellent for fishing. For those who want more excitement the beaches at Gruissan, Leucate and Port Nouvelle are only half an hour away. Here you can wind surf, water ski, kite surf, book fishing trips, hire boats and go sailing.

We provide: free wifi (Fibre 500mb), bed linen, bath, hand and tea towels. Laundry facilities are on site. Cooler bags, ice packs etc are available for the days you would like to take a picnic. We can arrange holistic treatments, wine tasting, painting courses and for those feeling more energetic guided walking is available through the local countryside and bike hire can easily be arranged. For those of you bringing your own bikes we have plenty of secure space on site.
