Whether you come from Fort William on the West side of Scotland or via Inverness on the East side, Tigh an Aullt is approached via one of the most awe inspiring glens of Scotland. Cluanie Glen is magnificent with its majestic mountains, its rugged rivers and loch. The colours of the highland landscape at any time of the year are truly beautiful.
This 3-bedroom detached cottage sleeping up to six, is the ideal home-away-from-home for those seeking a holiday in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
Tigh an Aullt is situated at the foot of the Five Sisters of Kintail, a famous set of Munros which draw climbers throughout the year. It is the highest cottage in the village of Ault na Chruinne nestling tight into the hillside. A spate stream full of large boulders flows down the hillside beside the cottage garden, sometimes with the sounds of the boulders moving, sometimes, as quiet as a gurgling fountain, depending on the amount of rainfall. Excellent walking, sailing, boat hire, pony-trekking and fishing are all nearby and Eilean Donan Castle, Plockton, Torridon and Applecross are within easy reach.
The warm and cosy cottage has been tastefully decorated throughout and enjoys panoramic views over the nearby loch and mountains. It is also only a 15-mile drive to the Skye Bridge making this a must when staying at the property. There is also a handy pub/restaurant and shop within walking distance.
The property, which is set over one floor is entered via the handy porch. Then once inside there is a lovely large triple aspect lounge complete with multi-fuel stove, big leather sofas and a TV. At the far end of the lounge is the perfect place to admire the views with a set of chairs and table set out to overlook the loch - there is even a telescope for spotting the seals, dolphins and otters in the water, as well as the eagles, harriers and peregrines in the sky. Next door to the sitting room is the modern, well-equipped kitchen, which is fitted with a gas hob, an electric cooker, a dishwasher, a digital slow cooker, steamer and a Bosch Tassimo Coffee Machine. The washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge and freezer can be found in the useful utility room. The kitchen has amazing views over Loch Duich and Mam Ratagan, which can be enjoyed whilst taking a leisurely breakfast or a cuppa at the handy breakfast bar. A separate dining room has a large oak table to seat up to six.
The three bedrooms are all a good size and include the wonderful master with king-size double bed, views of the Five Sisters and an en-suite bathroom complete with Jacuzzi bath and overhead shower. The other bedrooms are a lovely big twin with two full size single beds and the children's favourite Bunk Room with full sized bunk beds. The final room is the family bathroom, which has a wash basin, a WC, a bath, a separate shower and a two person Swedish Sauna.
Outside the cottage has a big paved patio with views over the mountains and loch, the stream is also visible and can be heard in the background. There is also a lawn area for children to run around. The gardens surrounding Tigh An Aullt are nicely sheltered and a number of bird feeding stations have been set up to allow visitors to see the local birds. In the evenings deer can often be seen either on the higher ground or around the cottage. A special visitor to the garden is the Pine Marten, who can often be enticed out with bread and jam placed on the ground or on the table - they are used to the outside light, so you can even keep this on to get a better look.
