The 145-year-old, heritage-listed church boasts original statement features including a high vaulted ceiling, stunning stained-glass windows, and beautifully restored wooden floors while offering you modern amenities resulting from a thoughtful restoration and conversion of the space. Haven on High accommodates 5 guests. Our mezzanine bedroom is the perfect spot to take in the full volume of the church’s space and view the ever-shifting colours of the stained-glass as the sun moves across the horizon. The mezzanine contains a queen bed and a single bed as well as a private sitting area. The vestibule on the street-facing side of the church is set up like a capsule hotel: a small private sleeping space for two containing an industrial bunk bed, smart home tech, and a few secrets for inquisitive kids to discover. We’ve curated a range of relaxing activities to help make your stay restful and rejuvenating. Inquisitive guests can read up on Campbell Town and Tasmania’s history, or complete challenges within and around the church that immerse you in the story of our space. Social butterflies can visit suggested points of interest and eateries across the Northern Midlands or unpack one of the 70+ board games found in the book nook. And of course, streaming your favourite show or reading a book by the fire is a must. Neatly tucked away under the mezzanine level is an updated bathroom with its own WC as well as a separate WC. Also on the lower level is a fully equipped kitchen, giving you the option to whip up your favourite home-cooked meals as we know from experience you will not want to stray too far from the warm embrace of the church. Outdoors, enjoy the birdsong and flowering trees in your private garden space complete with fountain, lighting, seating, and tables. You will also have either private or shared access to an additional garden with ample lawn space where you can picnic or play games as a family. Fresh linens and towels are provided for each stay as well as a washing machine and dryer for those chores that follow us everywhere. We provide all the basic supplies to get your stay underway, including shampoo and soaps, tea, coffee and sugar, salt, pepper and oil and a generous supply of wood, kindling and firelighters. Haven on High is centrally located in Campbell Town, a prospering community of 1,000 that offers visitors and passers-by everything they need to get the most out of a trip through Tasmania. We are next to the local IGA, BWS, and pharmacy and within a 5-minute walk of all shops, eateries, the local park, and historic landmarks in town. During your stay you will be the sole occupants of the church, enjoying private entrances, garden space, and an off-street carpark. You will be provided with access details 3 days before your check-in day. We are available by phone from 8 am to 8 pm if you have any questions during your stay. We would love it if you could message us when you have arrived safely and also a message on leaving is appreciated so we can clean as early as possible for our next guests. We're not always able to personally check the house before your arrival and are heavily reliant on our housekeeper. Haven on High is perfectly located as a base to day trip to some of Tasmania's most loved regions. You can spend your days exploring in either direction and come home to enjoy the sanctuary of this unique home. In the heart of the Midlands, Campbell Town is rich in convict history and the perfect place to explore between Hobart and Launceston. The town’s well-named Red Bridge, designed by convict-engineer James Blackburn, is Australia’s oldest surviving brick arch bridge. It was fashioned from 1.5 million red-clay bricks made on site, and still forms part of one of the state’s major highways. The convicts who painstakingly built the bridge in 1838 were housed in cellars beneath an adjoining coaching inn, the Foxhunters Return. Those cellars have become one of Australia’s most unique and acclaimed bookshops. Wander through the arches of The Book Cellar and browse a collection that focuses on nostalgia, heritage and Tasmania. A few blocks north is a statue of Eliza Forlong, the pioneering Scotswoman who founded Tasmania’s super-fine merino wool industry after traipsing across the German region of Saxony three times to select sheep to transport to the colony. Campbell Town was named by Governor Lachlan Macquarie after the family name of his second wife, Elizabeth Campbell, during a visit in 1821. Elizabeth’s name pops up frequently across central Tasmania, including on the Elizabeth River that runs through Campbell Town. The town remains a popular rest stop on the Heritage Highway between Hobart and Launceston and serves as the parochial line that separates Northern and Southern Tasmanians. Amongst it's historical highlights Campbell Town also boasts a great array of cafe's, homeware and gift stores, and other amenities which make it a vibrant country hub for travelers and the local community. Set up base in Campbell Town and make easy day trips to equally explore the Midland, East Coast, North and South regions of our beautiful state! There are very limited public transport options in the area so you will need your own car. Campbell Town is located just 35 minutes from Launceston Airport and 90 minutes from Hobart airport. If you require an extra vehicle to help your group partake in separate schedules, Haven's car (an automatic, 5-seat hatchback) can be rented for an additional fee. Before your arrival we will share a house guide that contains instructions on how to access the property, use certain appliances, and anything else you may need to know.
