Instant booking disabled. Quick reply! Following the enduring success of Weir Cottage, I am now making available, Weir & Duck Cottages combined. NOT for parties or multiple young couples but one larger family or two together or accompanying grandparents etc.
Effectively, you have TWO, two-bedroom cottages connected by a hall door. CARE: Not connected at upstairs level. Duck Cottage has a very large family room with table seating eight. Two upstairs bathrooms, one ensuite. Weir Cottage has an upstairs shower room. Cloakroom shared. ONE KITCHEN in this configuration, but see below. I regret that pets are NOT accepted.
The space
Please read this carefully as a unique property and the configuration will not suit everyone!
Under no circumstances is the cottage available for parties or multiple couples (beyond two couples) /multiple singles as this is a luxury family home. Perfect for one larger family or two smaller families travelling together (mum, dad, up to two children each or accompanying grandparents). For this, the cottage is absolutely ideal and offers great privacy and flexibility.
Although originally one cottage it has been informally divided into two - Weir Cottage and Duck Cottage. The two cottages are only connected via a lockable door in the hallway. Upstairs is not connected one to the other - there are two staircases. For this reason, it is probably unsuitable for a family with only smaller children because of the upstairs separation, one side to the other.
Duck Cottage - hitherto, this has been used by the owner exclusively, not rented. It has a very large open plan living/kitchen/dining area. Upstairs two fairly compact cottage bedrooms one with queen bed and a beautiful, vaulted ceiling, ensuite shower room with bidet. NOTE: this is semi-open-plan to the bedroom thus lacking some privacy (but there is another bathroom, this floor)! The second bedroom has two single beds and overlooks the back garden. There is also a family bathroom at this level with bath and separate shower with very high-quality fittings.
Weir Cottage - this has been available for holiday rental for five plus years and is consistently among the very highest rated holiday properties. Although it does have a kitchen, in this configuration, it is not available and will be locked. At a supplement I might be able to offer this e.g. two families one of whom vegan. There is a separate comfy sitting room and additional small sun-room with games and books. The fire is electric flame-effect. The separate (little bit windy) second staircase leads to Weir Cottage bedrooms. Certainly, the most spacious bedroom is here (in pictures with the genuine Victorian queen size bedstead). This one best to accommodate a travel cot (yours). Across the landing is a lovely shower room/WC (no tub). The smaller bedroom has one regular single bed and further quality folding bed, if required, suitable for a child or petite adult if required.
Location
The great delight of this cottage is its location. Although very private in a narrow lane, it is actually town centre so a couple of minutes’ walk to the High Street with pubs, restaurants and shops. A car is certainly best to make the most of the New Forest although the X3 bus is half-hourly connecting Salisbury to the north with Bournemouth to the south.
Guest access
Parking on drive for two cars. I will meet you if possible, otherwise a key will be available. Often described as a park-like garden extending to approximately two acres. There are two decks. One outside Weir Cottage and the other by the river next to the summerhouse. The lower garden, beyond the river, also has natural ponds and weir. Owing to the water hazards, children must be always supervised by an adult whilst outside. Be aware that there is a further unit available to rent part of the detached garage structure. This may or may not be occupied during your visit but in any case, has its own outside seating area and parking. This sleeps up to four and is bookable separately. The wider, two-acre parklike garden is shared if is anyone occupying Riverside Lodge. You might occasionally see the owner, gardeners or other maintenance people.
Other things to note
Unlike many rentals, the cottage is very highly equipped. Truly a home away from home. Free, unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout. I do not charge any cleaning fee but merely ask that the property is respected and left clean and tidy. Indoor smoking is prohibited and we ask that outdoor footwear removed to save the solid oak flooring.
