Relax and unwind in an Adirondack chair on the porch as you bask in the serenity of verdant foliage, soak under the stars in a private hot tub, stretch out in the hammock, or spend a starry night next to the fire pit sharing stories with those you love. Listen to the birds and the wind as it whispers through the leaves of the aspen trees. We invite you to experience all of these in our classic A-frame tiny home, meant to offer you a little bit of outdoor paradise and designed as a place of peace and relaxation where memories and new experiences are created and cherished. One of the greatest elements of this property is that it allows you to experience what off-grid living can be like with only minimal sacrifice.
PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH BEFORE BOOKING! Read the entire section below before making your reservation, so there are no surprises.
It is important to note that you will be staying in the Alpine wilderness, which requires a certain kind of respect and understanding of a few key things.
• You will be driving and parking on a gravel/dirt road and driveway. The road out to the home is mostly paved, until the last .75 of a mile, at which point it becomes unpaved. There are rustic stone steps from the driveway up to the house, so if you are bringing heavy items on your trip, you will have a bit of a workout. The good news is that our hot tub is the perfect place to restore tired muscles.
• You are staying in the mountains. If you have any heart problems and/or coming from sea level, you will notice a difference. The weather is typically mild here but is also unpredictable. We do not have central AC in our little home; however, if air is allowed to flow freely through open windows, you should stay comfortably cool in the main living area downstairs, and by the time you go to bed, the upstairs should be cool as well. We also provide a portable AC in the hottest summer months. Spending some time relaxing in the hammock or reading on the porch might be just what’s in order while you wait for the upstairs rooms to cool off.
• Hot water is provided with a point-of-contact tankless water heater, and while this means that you will have an endless supply of hot water, you will need to be careful about the volume of hot water you run at any given time. In other words, you will not be able to run a full bath, the dishwasher, and the washing machine all at the same time without overloading the water heater.
• Our little home is outfitted with a septic tank, so you will need to follow these rules: use garbage disposal sparingly, and no harsh chemicals, feminine products, sanitary wipes, or other items are to be disposed of or flushed down drains.
• Internet/Wi-Fi is provided, but it should be noted that cell reception is spotty on the way up to the cabin. We do provide a satellite landline for your convenience, should you need it, and while we do not provide cable, you should be able to stream your favorite services most of the time while staying with us.
• Our charming and classic wood-burning stove is intended to be used for ambiance, and pellets are provided for use in the basket. Please note that if you use the stove, we require that you clean it out before your departure.
• You will be enjoying a stay in the wilderness, and you should be aware that with that comes alpine critters including, but not limited to squirrels, foxes, bats, owls, eagles, deer, turkeys, bunnies, coyotes, snakes, and moose. So, please use caution and always enjoy these beautiful animals from a distance. But feel free to send us pictures if you see any! #StayLuxeVacations
• If you aren’t a bug person, our place may not be for you. While this area is known for having fewer insects than many other areas of the US, you are likely to encounter a few while staying at our A-frame. I literally just had a tiny bug crawl across my screen while writing this. ;)
• There is a good possibility that during the day and night you will hear birds and other woodland creatures as they go about their daily lives. We invite you to sit quietly at some point during your stay and just take it in, in all its glory. This is what nature sounds like. Enjoy the melody!
Everything listed above is what makes our Gunn Powder Haus so unique and amazingly different from other places. We are hopeful that you will find that these are even more of a reason to stay a while with us.

• Propane firepit with super fun stump seating (Burning wood is prohibited, as we are located in a desert environment that is highly prone to forest fires.)

WINTER GUESTS (November through April): Please note that our location experiences heavy snowfall with snow-covered roads and driveway. They are cleared as often as possible of excess snow but will have at least six inches of snow or ice. There are many full-time residents who daily access the area with proper preparation. In order to be properly prepared we require that each of our winter guests follow 4 MANDATORY RULES.
1. You must have a 4-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires and/or chains. If you need a rental, please let us know and we can offer the information for our contact at Epic Jeep Rentals.
2. Experience driving in snowy conditions is preferred, as it can be tricky. You will want to drive slowly and not overcorrect when/if you slide.
3. You will NOT be able to check in to the property after 5 pm during the winter months. This is to ensure that you arrive at the home during daylight hours, which allows you to better navigate snowy mountain roads. Please be sure your travel itinerary puts you here for check-in during this time frame.
4. Should there be heavy, consistent snowfall during your stay, you will need to use the provided snow shovels to clear paths to and from the driveway, front door, and hot tub. There will be heat mats provided; however, these mats can at times get overloaded with snow, which would require that you clear a layer for them to function properly.
We will send an email upon booking for you to confirm that you understand and agree to follow these rules. If you do not respond to the email and confirm that you understand and agree to follow these rules within 24 hours of booking, we will, unfortunately, be forced to cancel your booking. PLEASE NOTE: the only outdoor amenity available for guest use in the winter is the hot tub.

One of the best places I’ve ever stayed at! You get to see deer every morning and elk as well! The area is great if you are looking for a cozy outdoor experience and will most definitely not let you down! The kitchen area has everything you need for cooking (utensils, etc) so no need to bring anything but food! Outside, you can find little areas to walk to such as the many ponds there, create a bonfire at your house (perfect for s’mores) and also enjoy a rather relaxing hot tub! You can also relax in the hammock or swings if you wanted to stay near your home as well! The interior was definitely amazing and very relaxing! The beds were so comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud! If you need anything, the location is great as well because it only takes you 25-30 min to get to the nearest town as well. Overall, if you want a great outdoor experience, this is the best location to go that is isolated but also near everything!" -Jaqueline
