Make your own pizzas in the outdoor woodfired pizza oven, or enjoy the mouthwatering taste of a classic kiwi BBQ - yummy! Comfy furnishings and seaside adornments make the perfect environment for everyone to relax and unwind.
Sleeps up to eight guests across three bedrooms, complete with linen, bedding and pillows. One bedroom has an extra wide doorway for wheelchair access, and the bathroom/wetroom is also wheelchair friendly. Too hot or too cold? No problem - bedrooms and lounge boast heat pumps/air cons. Each bedroom and the lounge includes a Smart TV. Complimentary WiFi is available and the property has great cell phone coverage. The drinking water quality is excellent. Our water supply is filtered and a UV light system installed to kill bacteria. We do test the water annually.
Parking is not a problem, can accommodate up to 3 vehicles and a boat. Bring your boat for that fishing trip, or you can hire a charter boat with our local fish, dive and cruise skipper Justin. The Bay has several boat launching spots so take your pick.
The beachfront is a 2 minute drive, or 10 minute walk and sheltered from large ocean swells by a number of outlying islands. Enjoy safe swimming right along the beachfront. At the other end of the bay is rugged coastline leading you around rocks to the mermaid pool, or maybe you would prefer using the walking track at the top of Rapata Rd to access the mermaid pool. Ohawini is over the hill with access to the Bay via the beach at half to low tide. Take a picnic to the beach, or enjoy takeaways from Skips Fish N Chips on the waterfront. End your day at the beach with a hot outside shower - or cold if you prefer.
The Bay has a local store providing grocery items, fuel and dive bottle fills. The local caravan park at Parutahi beach also provide grocery items, and Robynn from the park makes a mean coffee.
We have one kayak with life jacket you can borrow, and lots of indoor games for those days when you want to chill at the house. Please note we cannot be held responsible for your safety when using the kayak. There are lots of rock pools to explore, magnificent pohutukawa trees to to picnic under or just to seek shade.
A 50 minute drive to Whangarei city, and a good hour to Onerahi airport. Whangarei has some wonderful attractions - Hundertwasser on the waterfront, adrenaline park in Hikurangi or maybe just the movies. Take your pick.
Want to go for a wander further North? Great - Russell is a 45-50 minute drive along the coastline with absolutely stunning views. Once there, perhaps you might want to catch the ferry across and spend the day in Paihia.
Just bring yourselves, your food, your drinks, your toiletries and beach towels, and be prepared to enjoy our wonderful slice of paradise.
