A restored midcentury summer home sits on 15 acres of pristine countryside overlooking Lake Michigan. You'll enjoy your own private oasis just a few minutes north of downtown Harbor Springs and only a short drive to several Lake Michigan beaches, inland lakes and rivers.
The sprawling 2,000 square foot home was built in the late 1960s and has been carefully maintained throughout the years. The living spaces all face south and were designed to maximize the ever changing natural light and views of Lake Michigan with an abundance of windows throughout the house bringing the outside in.
Enjoy two separate living spaces, each with an original wood burning fireplace. The sunny “green room” features original avocado shag carpet, a 1970s Malm fireplace, and period appropriate furniture. You can spend an entire day simply relaxing in the space listening to records, birdwatching and watching the weather pass over the expansive lake below. The more formal living room offers a cozy nook to read in, a desk to work from or a quiet space to relax in.
We recently made a few updates to the home including a thoughtful kitchen renovation. Everything you need to prepare a meal is there including a new Bosch induction stove, dishwasher, and all the necessary appliances - Moccamaster coffee maker, toaster, blender.
The bedrooms are simple, set in the back of the house to create privacy and comfort. There is a queen size bed in two of the bedrooms, the middle room has two twins, all feature high quality cotton linens and comfortable foam mattresses. Each room has an original built-in dresser, dressing table, and sizable closets. They are intentionally modest spaces, but it’s hard to find a more quiet, peaceful place to sleep.
A new, environmentally friendly geothermal heating and cooling system has been installed. The system operates in a way that air is continuously being cycled throughout the house (down into the earth to be warmed or cooled depending on the season) which results in a very comfortable living space, void of large bursts of hot or cold air.
Like any good countryside home, there are several puzzles, board games, playing cards, books and records to keep you entertained when not outside exploring. We have fiber internet throughout the house and a Roku TV tucked away in a closet that can be pulled for a movie night.
The home is uniquely located, tucked away on the historic “Tunnel of Trees” (M-119), sitting on top of a hill overlooking a wide-open, rolling meadow that appears to fall into Lake Michigan below. The 15 acres of picturesque, northern Michigan landscape will give you a sense of seclusion despite being only a few miles north of downtown Harbor Springs and 5 minutes from the beach.
You are free to explore the rolling property, following the paths that ascend to a viewpoint with panoramic views of Lake Michigan. You will find a representation of northern Michigan woodlands along the way including heirloom apple trees, wild blackcherry and pear trees, old growth maples along with pine, birch, oak and beech trees. There are several natural springs bubbling up, wild berry bushes, old dairy farm infrastructure and peaks of the lake at every corner.
Wildlife is abundant and we have a birdwatching book and binoculars for use. Several families of deer live on the property and walk by at all hours. Birds of prey often circle above. Families of wild turkeys are likely to march by during the day. Listen to owls at night. Foxes are occasional visitors. We have also spotted bobcats, porcupines, and the passing barn cat.
