Exceptional jungle palapa in Chonchos eco-resort, with thatched roof, 5 min walk to beautiful, secluded beaches. Watch whales, mantas, dolphins, birds, and other fauna right from your deck above the Pacific. Fish, snorkel, or relax on three beaches.
Our palapa sits about 90' above the ocean with exquisite views of a rocky cove. There are no railings to block your view of the whales, mantas, eagle rays and dolphins frolicking in front of your deck. The master bedroom has a Mexican queen bed (smaller than a US one). The sofa converts to a second queen bed as well. The palapa has large openings all around so this is pretty much outdoor living. The kitchen features a fridge and freezer and there are lights, outlets and inverters to power your small electronics like cell phones or tablets. The bathroom and shower are private with the shower open to the sky.
There is staff on site at Chonchos to help you off the boat and get you established. The restaurant serves excellent, local fare and drinks upon prior request.
The entire palapa will be yours. Please be aware that it is not suitable for small children as there are only short 18" railings. Beautiful and secluded beaches are located on both sides of the palapa and are less than a 5 minute walk away. In addition, our cliffside location provides privacy and outstanding views.
Chonchos is accessed by water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan, near Mismaloya (approximately 30 minutes from Old Town Puerto Vallarta). The water taxi (Nayeli) makes two trips daily, 9am and 3pm, and the ride is a little over an hour depending on the load and conditions. The excursion is one of the highlights of your visit due to the outstanding scenery and marine life that you'll come across.
Chonchos is an eco reserve consisting of 25 unique palapas. Each one is unique and magical in it's own special way. There are typically very few guests on site, ensuring you a romantic and peaceful get away.
The village of Chimo is an authentic, Mexican fishing village. Here you can purchase fresh made tortillas, (everyday at 1PM.) Drop into one of the two restaurants for lunch or a beer, or purchase supplies.
There are no ATM's in Chimo and dollars aren't easily accepted. Make sure you bring pesos preferably in denominations of 200 or less. Our friends have a tough time with the 500's.
Chonchos is a rustic and rugged environment located in the jungle. There are amazing flora, fauna and marine life to keep you occupied. Cell service is spotty, texting works best. There is probably no internet. This is definitely an old school vacation, providing you a chance to unplug during your stay.
Some other things to do:
A short water taxi ride to a little farm at Pizota. From here it's a moderate hike up to a beautiful waterfall and deep freshwater pool. Afterwards Rosa will have cervazas ready on the beach.
You can get one of the local divers to take you out in his boat. It's equipped with a compressor and air hoses sort of like Snuba, Mexican style.
Real sportfishing boats with heavy gear are available in Yelapa. They could pick us up / drop off at Chonchos.
For the fit, get one of the guys to take you on a little hike. Refugio is about 640 metres straight up the mountain through jungle. Then a very small ranch town. Nice place for lunch.
Perhaps a day in Yelapa. Go para-sailing behind a boat, or para-sail (tandem) off the top of the mountain. There is also horseback riding, and, well, eating and drinking
