Our home is designed to foster those unforgettable moments with friends and loved ones, when time seems to stop, and laughter, connection, and love stretch into infinity. Located on 7 private acres within Tahoe National Forest, it is only 10 mins from Nevada City and 25 mins from the Yuba River. The 3300 sqft home offers two master suites, vaulted ceilings, designer furniture, luxury bedding, all new kitchen and bathrooms, and forest views. It’s perfect for large families and groups of friends.
THE SPACE
Fully remodeled in 2021, the home is bright and modern, with plenty of space to relax, cook, snuggle, and unwind. Lovingly-appointed with a mix of antiques and designer furnishings and decor, the interior feels both cozy and luxurious. You will have the entire home and surrounding property to yourself. And if you need anything, our co-host lives just up the road.
The house is surrounded by majestic pine and cedar trees, yet is conveniently located just off Highway 20, and just a short drive from many restaurants and shops in downtown Nevada City.
The magical Yuba river is close by, as are countless hiking and biking trails, including the legendary Pioneer Trail which runs alongside the front of our property and offers miles of hiking and mountain biking. In the winter, we get plenty of snow, and are close enough for a day trip to Tahoe ski resorts: Soda Springs (38 mins), Boreal Mountain (39 mins), Royal Gorge for cross country skiing (40 mins), and Tahoe Donner (55 mins).
Inside the home, there is a large living room with a new, comfy sectional and a chair-and-a-half that is perfect for snuggling. Enjoy the bay view window nook from the classic West Elm swivel chair.
Our chef's kitchen is perfect for preparing meals, with new, stainless steel appliances, a coffee and tea station, and new dinnerware, flatware, and cookware. The gorgeous teak dining table extends to seat 10. Curl up with a book on the antique leather chaise just off the dining area.
All bedrooms are newly-carpeted for your comfort, and have all new beds with memory foam mattresses (medium firm), pillows, and linens. There are five bedrooms:
- Bedroom 1: Main floor master suite with a king bed, vaulted ceilings, outdoor access, a work station, and a private bathroom. There is room for a twin air mattress, available upon request.
- Bedroom 2: Upper level master suite with a king bed, a work station, and private bathroom with a soaking tub and a large shower.
- Bedroom 3: Upper level family bedroom with one queen and one single bed.
- Bedroom 4: Upper level couples' bedroom with one queen bed and an antique vanity that can serve as a desk in a pinch.
- Bedroom 5: Upper singles / kids room with two single beds.
We've put a lot of time, energy and thought into making our home the perfect mountain getaway, where luxury and comfort meet in a stunning natural setting. We are so excited to share it with you!
HOUSE RULES
* NO PARTIES or EXTRA / DAY ONLY GUESTS- We are happy to share our space with people who want to use it to enjoy quality time with friends and family, but parties are not allowed. Violations will result in immediate eviction without a refund and will incur a $2000 fine plus any damages.
* NO SHOES INSIDE - Shoes are not allowed inside the house. Please bring slippers or use the ones we have provided for you. Violations may result in additional cleaning charges.
* NO OPEN FLAMES - Our home is located in an extreme fire risk area. We absolutely do not allow open flames either inside or outside the house, including but not limited to candles, kerosene or oil lamps, tiki torches, campfires, bonfires, grills, etc. Violations will result in immediate eviction without a refund. Also please note that starting any fires outside during fire season is a felony offense.
* NO SMOKING OR VAPING - For everyone's safety and comfort, smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere on the property, including outside the house. Violations may result in a $2000 fine for smoke remediation.
* NO EVENTS, FILMING, or COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY - This space is designed for recreational or off-site gatherings with family, friends, and colleagues only. Not for filming anything, taking commercial photographs, selling anything and the like. Violations will result in eviction without refunds.
OTHER DETAILS
* Refunds and Travel Insurance - Please note that your booking is strictly 100% non-refundable, except for the specific conditions that we’ve listed above. Refunds will not be given for weather conditions outside our control, such as winter storms or fire related conditions, nor for any personal reasons, including cancellations due to COVID or other illnesses. We STRONGLY encourage you to consider purchasing travel insurance to protect your stay, and please be sure to read the fine print to make sure you understand exactly what’s covered.
* Fireplace - Please note that the fireplace that is visible in some of the photos is available for use for a small extra fee due to the unusually-high costs of propane.
* Early Check-In / Late Check-Out - We can sometimes accommodate early check-in or late check-out for an additional fee and depending on the other bookings before and after yours.
* Internet - We have Starlink and solid WiFi coverage throughout the house. Starlink speeds can vary quite a bit, between 20-120 Mbps download and 5-25 Mbps upload, which is good enough for video calls and streaming video. However, Starlink does occasionally lag, and will sometimes drop completely, especially during heavy storms, so please take this into consideration when planning your stay with us. As a backup, there is WiFi available at Communal Cafe in downtown Nevada City, just 10 minutes away.
* Cell Service - It is spotty and sporadic both in and around the house. With most major providers you may only get 1 bar of signal, at most. We recommend that you download driving and check-in instructions ahead of time.
* Power - Occasionally power and the internet both go down for a period of time. This usually occurs during winter storms but can happen at other times as well. Additionally, the local utility PG&E will sometimes shut off power for public safety reasons to prevent wildfires. These outages are beyond our control, and we currently do not have a generator or battery backup. By booking, you acknowledge that there is the potential for loss of power at the house during your stay. Refunds will be given for power loss longer than 4 hours in a 24 period, and only for the days affected.
* Water - Our water comes from a well and it is filtered, delicious, and safe to drink. It is also limited due to drought. Please help us conserve our precious water. Also note that the water heater is large but not limitless, so we recommend taking short showers if you are staying with a larger group. Lastly, please be aware that in winter the pipes can get very cold, so it takes a few minutes for the hot water to start flowing.
*Eco Septic - We are on a biological septic system. DO NOT user any bleach, antibacterial, or non-biodegradable products, as well as hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, or any other harsh chemicals. Signs are posted throughout the house as reminders. Anything you flush in the kitchen or bathrooms will impact the delicate bacteria that break down waste and can result in costly repairs that will be charged to you.
* Location - We are located in Tahoe National Forest, just off Highway 20, but set back from the road. Our driveway is a fairly short (about 500 ft) and fairly level dirt and gravel road, which just a modest incline at the very beginning. In normal weather, it is very accessible. However, in heavy rain or snow conditions, we recommend an all-wheel drive vehicle with good clearance.
* Summer - Fire danger is very high in the area, especially between June and November. Please note that we do not provide refunds or offer rescheduling due to nearby wildfire activity, smoke, poor air quality, or other climate-related events. However, if there is a voluntary or mandatory evacuation notice posted for our zone, your reservation will be cancelled and we will issue you a full refund.
* Winter - We get plenty of snow in the winter. Even with plowing, snow can accumulate fast overnight or in major storms. If there is snow in the forecast, we strongly recommended an all-wheel drive vehicle with good clearance and snow chains. Alternatively, you may park at the beginning of the driveway and walk to the house, which takes about 2 minutes for most people. Refunds will not be given for winter storm conditions.
* COVID: We employ a professional cleaner and perform detailed and meticulous disinfection and cleaning protocols between guests.
* Children - The house is not suitable for small children as there is a steep stairwell between the two floors and no childproofing measures throughout. There is no fence between the house and the road.
* Privacy & Noise - You will have the whole house and 7-acre property to yourselves. Although you can't really see any of our neighbors from the house, sound carries far in the woods, so please respect their privacy and peace.
* Security - For guest safety and property protection, we have security cameras and flood lights installed on the exterior of the house.
* Wildlife - You may encounter wildlife on the property. We have not seen bears or other large animals, but for your safety, please do not leave food, drinks, or trash in your car, the porch, or close to the house. You may also occasionally small insects inside the house.
