This duplex is located on the bridgeless barrier island called Don Pedro, on Florida's Gulf Coast. The property is accessible by private car ferry or personal watercraft only, which makes it a memorable vacation choice. The guest will drive a car onto the Ferry boat for a 3 minute trip across the Intracoastal Waterway (the bridge was removed in the 1950's). Because the car ferry is pricey (currentlt $55 round trip), most guests stock up before driving onto it so they don't have to go back and forth. Guests staying a month will have a discount that may be applied to a book of 10 passes (currently $400). Upon arrival on the island, travelers will feel as if they have gone back in time to what Florida looked like prior to development. While we now have some stately private homes, most of the roads are still sand and there are no stoplights or streetlights to interrupt late night stargazing. In fact, it is so dark at night that sea turtles still come to our beaches to lay eggs in the early summer. Once visitors have crossed both island interior bridges, a long sandy road will bring you to our vacation cottage. Our buildings are raised on pilings due to the proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, but ours is only about 8 feet off the ground, so there are fewer stairs. Underneath the house is a deck with a sectional sofa and a dining table for 6 people. There are usually beach chairs and an umbrella or tent you can use. Inside the home, guests will see a large great room with seating for at least 8. There is an entertainment center with a 65" smart TV and a supply of videos, books and games. There are 4 bar stools for extra friends in the kitchen and a dining nook that seats 4. The kitchen has wood cabinets, stainless appliances and granite countertops. A keurig as well as a traditional coffee maker are in the kitchen. A large pantry provides storage room for food as there is no grocery store on the island. The floors are laminate throughout living areas. Two bathrooms are tiled. There is a large master bedroom facing Bocilla Lagoon with a king sized bed, plenty of closet and storage room and a 32' flat screen TV. This room has an en-suite half bathroom. Down the hall, another guest room has a king bed as well. This room has a slight view of the Gulf of Mexico. It has 2 closets and also has a 32' flat screen TV. The hall bathroom has a tub/shower combination and is accessible to all guests. There are plenty of towels and beach towels for your use. The cottage has central heat and air for comfort. Behind the unit is the dockage for all homeowners in the complex. There always seems to be room for a boat here, but it is shallow so you need about 20" of draft and watch the T-tops. Across the street from the cottage, guests will find charcoal grills for meals. The heated pool is here as well, and there are restrooms for convenience. Near the pool is one of the dedicated beach accesses for homeowners and guests. Our beaches are sparsely populated and boast some of the most spectacular sunsets anywhere. We usually have beach chairs and a tent or umbrella for your enjoyment. Golf cart rentals are available on island, as well as kayaks, paddleboards and bikes. Our property manager Kayla (islanderproperties.com) will be glad to help with rentals once your vacation has been booked. There are two tennis courts on the property for exercise and fun. Bookings for February and March must be at least one month.
