Hall Farmhouse is situated in the peaceful, rural hamlet of Winkburn set on the edge of the owner’s working farm.
From Winkburn you can enjoy some stunning countryside walks and cycling, including the highest point in Nottinghamshire which are on your doorstep! Also in the area are the market town of Southwell, it has its own stunning minster and lots of quaint shopping and cafes, the local Newfields dairy ice cream parlour is well worth a visit and only a very short drive away, there is also Beermats micro brewery within walking distance from Hall Farmhouse with its own taproom to try before you buy! Maxeys Farm shop is a very short drive and stocks lots of local produce, with a butchers and bakery plus some delicious artisan breads and a host of other treats and in October you can pick your own pumpkins!
The historic town of Newark on Trent is 7 miles away, in Newark you can find lots to do from picnics in the castle grounds to taking a boat trip on the river or a visit to the civil war museum, Market days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays so you can pick up a bargain. Also in the area is the Newark Showground, home to the Nottinghamshire County Show in May and there is also a whole calendar of events including antique fairs and horticultural shows, Clumber Park is within a 30 minute drive with lovely walks and cycling also Sherwood Forest with the beautiful major oak, home of Robin Hood and its visitor centre, Cresswell Craggs is a place not to be missed with its ancient caves dating back to the ice age when mammoths and sabre tooth tigers roamed the earth, you can walk through the beautiful gorge and see real artefacts dating back 1000’s of years, Rufford Abbey and Newstead Abbey are also within easy reach. For the more energetic try a day at Sherwood Pines with its many cycle trails and Go Ape tree top experience!
The cathedral city of Lincoln is a 40 min drive, it has many shops and restaurants along with its historic cathedral home of the Magna Carter you can also take in the stunning views from the castle walls or visit the Victorian prison, also the Lincolnshire county show is held on the Lincoln showground each June and the showground also hosts a whole calendar of other events. The city of Nottingham is also a 40 minute drive, with its historic castle and lots of great shopping , restaurants and theatre venues to take in a show. Both Lincoln and Nottingham can be reached by train from the Newark castle train station in Newark.
