A spectacular picturesque getaway on a ten-acre property suitable for a romantic getaway or for a large family with plenty of room to spare. The greater than 5500 SQF Castillo with a 3500 SQF Palacio (main house) and a 2000 SQF casita (guesthouse) are built in an eco-friendly fashion with super energy efficient fashion solar cistern Trombe walls. This healthy, comfortable, and energy-efficient home is in Taos, midway between the ski valley and the downtown. Enjoy the magnificent views of sunrises over Taos Mountain and sunsets from one of the many porches overlooking the mountains, pastureland, and the Arroyo Hondo. The location is incredible: on the prestigious and desirable North side of Taos. Easy to reach the new Taos Ski Valley and the newly expanded airport. The main house can sleep up to eight with an expansive master suite and three beautifully designed bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed and three and one-half bathrooms. The main house is equipped with a beautiful living area and a fully functional gourmet kitchen with granite and butcher-block counters. In the casita, the newly renovated kitchen and newly remodeled bathroom have granite and concrete countertops and porcelain floors. The guest house sleeps up to seven with a king sized bedroom and a sleeping area with five twin beds. The casita also has a large Artist yoga studio built for northern light. Bring the whole family, room to spare!
Taos was first inscribed in history by Juan Belarde, secretary to Don Juan de Onate, in 1598, when he wrote, "This day, after mass, we went on to the province of the Taos, which they also called Tayberon and others". He had heard the Picuris Indians pointing to the northeast say that their relatives, the "Tao," lived yonder. Subsequently, by 1760, the Village was named "Don Fernando de Taos" by the Spanish settlers. Historians believe the name is attributed to Captain Don Fernando de Chavez, one of the leading settlers before the rebellion, who owned the current land as the Cristobal de la Serna land grant. Don Fernando never returned following the uprising. Taos is now a community overflowing with a long, proud history, three cultures living side by side, and a heritage of colorful people. Its diversity makes Taos a fascinating and desirable place to live and do.
House Rules/Tip
1. Please, no smoking inside or outside of the house.
2. The fireplaces are currently non-functional.
3. Please, no animals in or outside of the house.
4. We are an eco-friendly family and hope you will conserve energy by turning off the lights, not using too much water, and not placing toxic chemicals down the drains.
5. We generally use dilute Vinegar for household cleaning.
6. Please use the laundry detergent provided if you need it. They are bio-safe for septic systems. Please wash white towels separately and with a small amount of bleach and fabric softener as directed.
7. The property is on its water well, so please conserve water reasonably.
8. The house has multiple tram walls, so you will notice the home is warmer at night intentionally and disperses by morning.
9. Four thermostats are in the main house and one in the casita. They should already be set to a standard 68-70 degrees. Please turn them down to 55 degrees upon departing the house.
10. In addition, we recently had a mini-splits cooling system for the warmer days.
11. The boiler and water holding system regulates the water temperature and should be set to a comfortable hot temperature. I will ask the caretaker to turn this down after your stay.
12. Please do not place any chemicals or sanitary products into the toilets or drains.
Please do not send grease or coffee grinds down the sink. Please use the jar provided to collect excess grease and allow it to harden, and please place grinds and solidified grease into the trash.
13. Please do not create excess trash, as it is harmful to the environment.
The main trash can is located in the main house garage, and it should be lined with a trash bag found on the shelves above the trash can. All other items in the garage are the owner's property and for the owner's use only.
14. Please keep the garage door closed, and the doors closed, as you do not want uninvited animal guests.
15. The main water shut-off valve for each house is located in the closet located in the garage. It is in the bottom left corner, should you need it in an emergency.
16. The main circuit breaker in the main house is located near the garage entryway or boot room.
17. In the casita, the circuit breaker is in the gym to the left of the door behind the yoga pads.
18. You can use the yoga equipment and gym floor. However, please put all equipment back in its place. No Food or drink in the gym, please.
19. The main house kitchen is at your disposal and is fully stocked with cookware and appliances. Most of the cookware is coated, so please use wood or plastic utensils for cooking.
20. Please turn off and unplug all appliances when your stay is finished to conserve energy.
21. Please keep the kitchen in an orderly, neat clean fashion. Please put all items back in their place when possible.
22. There are kitchen trash can liners in the lower cabinet next to the door.
23. We have provided you with a small amount of coffee and tea and the needed sugars and sweeteners.
24. The casita kitchen is generally for hot drinks and snacks and has limited appliances. Please keep this area tidy. Please eat only in the dining and kitchen areas.
25. There is an outside seating area in the back of the main house with an outdoor fire pit, which can only be used if fire conditions permit (not windy and adequate rainfall) and should be used only at your own risk. Please have an adult present to accompany the children.
After your stay:
1. Please remove all trash and place it in a trash container or bags located in the garage or at curbside.
2. Please remove all food from the refrigerator.
3. Please place all dirty dishes into the dishwashing machine and place the machine on before you leave.
4. Please strip all USED (Slept on) beds and leave the linens matching the bed on top of the mattress pad for that bed. Please do not mix the linens.
5. Please turn down all thermostats to 55 degrees. (Master, upstairs bedroom, and dining area)
6. Please ensure no gas is left in the on position.
7. Please unplug all appliances except the refrigerator.
8. Please tidy the bathrooms and place all dirty towels in the laundry area.
9. Please leave unused or clean towels in the cabinet.
10. Please make sure all windows are closed and all blinds are in the down position.
11. Please lock all doors/garages and leave the keys in the lockbox.
