About the property
Starting out life as a farm labourer's abode, now lovingly renovated, this 200-year-old stone cottage is excellent for a countryside escape with family and friends. With exposed beams, wooden floors, a real fire and a gorgeous garden where you can watch the North Yorkshire steam train tootle along, it brims with character. There are stunning views of the North York Moors National Park and the Esk Valley from every window too. This is the ideal place to take life easy and indulge. You'll be greeted by the smell of freshly baked bread – a complimentary loaf is provided, while for a slice of the local life, there's a country pub and village shops within a 10-minute walk. Meanwhile, the town of Whitby is just a short drive away and makes a great day out on the coast.
The space
This semi-detached cottage is kitted out with quality furniture and the modern rustic style is inspired by the surrounding landscape, with pieces such as the paintings being created by local artists. There's a romantic and boutique hotel-style feel throughout.
In the living room, there's a fire set up ready to light if you wish, while the plump sofas are the perfect place to put your feet up and admire the views. With a music system accessed via the iPad with complimentary Apple music, WiFi, a Smart TV with Netflix and a DVD and book library, there's plenty more to keep you entertained.
When it's time to cook up a feast, the open-plan kitchen/diner, with its granite worktops, Wedgwood crockery and Royal Doulton glassware, is equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, large fridge/freezer with ice-maker, microwave, toaster, kettle, and a dishwasher.
The dining area has a table and chairs, plus a vintage leather sofa so that you can chat to the cook of the group as dinner is prepared. If you fancy a tipple, for your convenience, there's even an honesty bar.
There is also a washing machine and dryer in the laundry room.
In good weather, open up the French doors onto the large balcony where you can dine alfresco. Sensational views incorporate the North York Moors, the Esk Valley and the steam train line where carriages tootle along on their journey to Whitby.
The outside space also includes a patio with a BBQ and a lawned area where children, or dogs, can enjoy playing. Wildlife, including deer and partridges, can often be seen from the garden too.
There are three bedrooms, all with king-size beds (one of which can be set up as two single beds if preferred), a wall-mounted TV and an en-suite shower room with LED sensor mirror, heated towel rail, shaver socket and Elemis toiletries.
You'll also find a host of thoughtful touches including umbrellas, binoculars and torches that you are welcome to borrow during your stay.
Need more room? Dolly's Cottage can be booked with the other four cottages at the site (Esk View, Esk View Retreat, Primrose Cottage and Primrose Retreat) to sleep up to 14 guests – ideal for wedding parties and large family get togethers.
