The Shropshire market town of Whitchurch is just a ten-minute drive away, with architecture dating from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. The town hosts a food and drink festival every May. A short walk from the town centre takes you to the Llangollen Canal, which has a unique flight of seven locks.
Chester is a bustling town where you’ll find plenty of contemporary high street names and brands, but there’s also a wealth of history here. The Romans knew the city as Deva, and it’s still home to the largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain. The two-storey Rows are the place to come for shopping. And if you can pull yourself away from the retail therapy, Chester Zoo is a must too.
Life was hard in industrial Britain. Come and see for yourself just how much the workers had to toil at Quarry Bank Mill, where children had to work the looms. The gardens here are a riot of colour in the spring and summer.

From boa constrictors to a family of ring-tailed lemurs, there are lots of species to spot, and the little ones can lend a hand and feed the farm animals too.
