Oliva is a traditional Spanish village with modern day facilities that is conveniently situated between the coastal towns of Denia and Gandia that retains a bygone country feel yet is only minutes away from the 4 star Oliva Nova SPA Hotel. This small village with its narrow streets, traditional townhouses and pleasing modern urbanizations is dominated by the Montgo Mountain and the Pego National Park Area. It is hidden amongst the beautiful woodlands and flat valley that spreads towards the sea with orange, almond and olive trees.
This village has many Fiestas, and a wonderful Friday market where local traders and farmers sell their food , drink and other artisan products with a background of song and dance in the Valencian style. On the 9th of October (the day of the Valencians) you will enjoy a wonderful Village party and music well into the late evening.
Food and drink plays an important part in the life of Oliva and Denia and there are ample bars/restaurants that provide traditional Tapas, variety of full meat and fish dishes and of course the authentic Paella, all to be enjoyed whilst soaking up the village hospitality and life. The Marques de Campo is a lively street, lined with open air restaurants with a real world food theme serving everything from traditional rice and tapas as well as tastes from Germany, Holland and the UK. All these restaurants have adequate open air seating which makes for a meal with great atmosphere, with the added bonus of shading from the trees lining the avenue, many an hour can be spent watching the world go by. The surrounding streets are great for shopping, with plenty of boutiques and designer clothing outlets; Denia provides the best shopping between Valencia and Benidorm.
Jávea lies some 20km south of Denia along a spectacular winding mountain road over the Montgo Mountain or a easy drive past the small towns of La Xara and Ondara. It is a bustling resort with a classic Spanish traditional old town, fine restaurants and blue flag beaches stretching for many kilometres, even in the height of summer finding a quite spot is always easy. Javea is a beautiful traditional Spanish fishing village that has expanded to accommodate a relaxed tourist trade suitable for all ages. Locally there is something to do all year round, with traditional religious and local festivals at different times of year. There are so many wonderful sights to explore (lighthouses, caves, cathedrals) some fantastic walks, and sea excursions, also great for cycling and various other activities such as golf and tennis. A lively “cafe culture” means there is a relaxed but exciting atmosphere along the main beach front especially in the summer.
There are many nature walks around the villages that take in the surrounding woodlands and orange groves or for the more enthusiastic ones amongst us a trek to the “Cross” or peak of the Montgo Mountain, where on a clear day the views are truly stunning.
There is plenty for the kids to do if they get bored with the swimming pool and beaches. Less than 30 minutes away there are many attractions for all ages including ‘Terra Natura’ animal park, ‘Mundomar’ an animal water park, ‘Aqualandia’ a themed water park and ‘Terra Mitica’ a huge fun park, boasting some of the largest rides in Europe.
Golf
The apartment is perfect for golfers looking for a location to visit the 18-hole Seve Ballesteros designed course at Oliva Nova Golf Club or any of the 25 courses within an hours drive. The Costa Blanca has many renowned golf courses of which 5 are less than half an hours drive away. Javea itself has 2 – the internationally renowned 27 – hole course at La Sella which is a 3 minute drive away, and a local 9-hole course which is more difficult than it looks and has superb views of the ‘landmark’ Montgo mountain. There are further 9-hole courses at Moraira and Altea and there are also very good courses at Benidorm, Valencia and Alicante, in particular the famous 18-hole championship links course at El Saler, for those who don’t mind an hour or so drive before the round.
