Especially well suited for families seeking comfort, character and amenities in one of the most sought-after locations in all of San Diego. Our two-story, renovated home is only 2.5 miles from the airport, which means you can start your SoCal vacation just minutes after landing!
Lots of natural light, beautifully maintained, and located in the historic Point Loma neighborhood, the property is situated between San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean - it truly can't be beat as a home base for exploring all that San Diego has to offer.
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, and a half bathroom on the first floor. Not unusual for custom homes of the 1920s, both upstairs bathrooms are off of the hallway - meaning, there is no dedicated "Master" bathroom and both are convenient for any guest. There is a small, fenced-in back yard with a lovely Trumpet plant, plumeria, hibiscus and an orange tree (we're currently landscaping and updated photos will be posted soon.). There is outdoor seating with a space heater to enjoy cooler San Diego evenings. You’ll have a propane grill for cooking outside . . . (purchase fresh seafood from Point Loma Seafood five minutes down the road. Steaks from Cecils meat market, nearby.)
Popular Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay and major visitor attractions like the famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World and Balboa Park, are all within 15 minutes of our house. Coronado island, with the famous Hotel Del Coronado, quaint main street with shops and restaurants, and one of the widest and beautiful beaches in the country, is a 20 minute drive.
Our home is an easy 1/4 mile walk to Liberty Station (formerly Naval Training Center San Diego) with shops, noteworthy restaurants, the Public Market, Trader Joes and Vons grocery stores. The many restaurants to choose from, (satisfying restricted diets, and finicky little ones) offer delivery and outside seating. Corvette Diner is a 50s themed diner/arcade, perfect for an outing with the kids. Upscale Solare offers scrumptious, Italian fare with an outdoor patio and amazing wine list. Con Pane can't be beat for coffee, homemade breads, sandwiches and pastries, and Chi Chocolate serves chocolate treats freshly made every day. Stone Brewery, the largest locally owned restaurant in SD, has an outdoor space with beautiful waterfall and fire pits, and offers an extensive craft brew menu for those who imbibe.
The park space in Liberty Station has a large, playground for children, clean public restrooms, grassy fields and park benches along with walking and biking paths beside the water. The waterway is lovely and calm - you might want to launch our stand-up paddle boards and get out on the water yourselves - they're yours to enjoy (as are beach chairs, boogie boards, and a beginners surfboard).
Downtown San Diego, which has experienced a wonderful metamorphosis the last 10 years, is alive with both familiar shops and local specialty stores. Sea Port Village is a must, with it's vintaged carousel, Ben & Jerry's ice cream and over 30 shops to peruse while wandering along the bay front promenade. In the summer months, the San Diego Symphony holds outdoor concerts on the Embarcadero nearby.
Little Italy, close to down town, is another area we recommend exploring. With its fabulous Italian restaurants (and, all kinds of other cuisines) and beautiful, Farmer's Market on Sunday's, it's a unique area in San Diego, and worth adding to your bucket list.
The house also has easy access to I-5, the north/south connector to all southern California coastal towns. You can explore La Jolla, Del Mar, and points north, easily. Mexico is a direct drive south, approximately 45 minutes.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Point Loma is one of San Diego's most sought after, neighborhoods with unique, high priced homes. It's convenient location, includes the airport, and our neighborhood is in the flight path. The house has been through the Quieter Homes Program, which means it has central heating and air-conditioning and dual-paned windows that significantly reduce airplane noise, however, it is not sound proof. The charm far outweighs the airplane noise for those that live in this historic part of town.
Also, note - You are staying in a neighborhood with local families and long-time residents and there are very few rentals nearby. This is not a seasonal vacation rental neighborhood, and we do not wish to call attention to renters staying while we are away ourselves. As such, no parties, and please be respectful to our neighbors.
The property has a dedicated driveway to fit one larger vehicle or, two compact cars. The house has easy, but not reserved street parking. (We rarely have difficulty parking in front of our own home).
