The approach to La Torre Masseria Villa is through a magnificent baroque archway and it sits amid a colourful and well-tended gardens featuring around 100 young lemon trees and many other fruit trees. There are 2 courtyards and a large paved terrace, each furnished with tables, chairs and with many terracotta pots and vases of every shape and size and all brimming with colourful flowers.
A large swimming pool (enclosed in its own courtyard and can be securely gated, if needed, for child safety reasons), is one of the Masseria's most beautiful assets. Air conditioning is available (on request and at an extra charge). La Torre Masseria contains the owner's eclectic collection of antiques and artwork and is sympathetically and tastefully decorated throughout. All the rooms have stunning vaulted stone ceilings and ancient limestone floors which, with the meter-thick walls, combine to help keep the house cool in summer. The kitchen, with handsome antique oak dining table, adjoins the spacious sitting room which is sited in on the ground floor of the original tower and contains original paintings and a beautiful bronze sculpture of a black panther. A grand external stone staircase leads to a large furnished terrace with 360 deg views, perfect for sunset cocktails. The spacious first floor bedroom, complete with four-poster bed, has its own study and private balcony as well as a spacious en suite shower bathroom. Two of the ground floor bedrooms (1 double + 1 double/twin) open directly onto the main courtyard and one further bedroom (twin), adjoins the sitting room and is large enough for an extra bed (on request). All the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms.and there is one further cloakroom with washbasin and WC in the laundry. The laundry is equipped with 2 washing machines and 2 drying machines, also irons and an ironing board.
Where to find us: La Torre Masseria Villais 22 kilometres south of Lecce on the Salintino peninsula of Puglia - Italy's most south-easterly region. From the upper terrace of the Masseria, on clear days, you can see the sea and ships making their way along the Adriatic, and even Albania is sometimes visible.
Set in ancient olive groves and not far from several beautiful beaches on the Adriatic coast, this romantic Masseria (fortified farmhouse,) was recently restored to a high level. The central part of the building was formerly a Norman Tower dating from the 11th Century and in centuries past it was the home of a Knight of Malta. There are lots of interesting places to explore - Lecce (22K), Otranto (13K), Gallipoli (35K), Santa Cesarea (20K), Alberobello (120K) and there are many excellent restaurants everywhere, including in the local small town of Carpignano (3K) and there is excellent shopping in Lecce, Maglie and Otranto.
Facilities include: Swimming pool (7m x 14m; 1.5m - 2.5m depth) with wide built-in steps as well as a ladder and diving board. CHILD SAFETY: the big wrought iron gates to the swimming pool courtyard can be closed if needed for safety reasons. Washing machines; Dryers; Dishwasher; Microwave, Basic Italian SKY Satellite TV with Sport, DVD; CD Player; iPod doc; internet via satellite/antenna; Built-in Barbecue, Fly Screens (all windows except one); Air Conditioning (payable locally). There are numerous bikes (the area is excellent for cycling) and also a table tennis table (ping pong balls provided) situated on the north terrace.
Getting there: The two nearest airports are Brindisi (65K) and Bari (170K). Train Station: Lecce (22K). Main airlines: Ryanair (Stansted); EasyJet and BA (Gatwick).

The coastline is spectacular: south of Otranto it's rocky and dramatic (and well worth making the drive down to Santa Maria di Leuka at the southern-most tip of the peninsula), while northwards, towards Lecce, there are long gently shelving beaches with pale gold sands and great safe swimming.
