The beauty of Casa de Las Aves is not simply that it is a beautiful gated vacation home, which it certainly is. The real charm is how easily one is drawn to its outdoor living area. Whether your interest lies in dipping your toes in the crystal-clear pool, grilling a delicious lunch, or curling up with a good book, your satisfaction is assured. And what a view: 180 degrees of spectacular Costa Rican splendor with a sunrise beyond description.
Located just forty minutes from the International Airport in San Jose, forty-five minutes from Pacific beaches, and within an hour of National Parks, coffee and chocolate tours, and Poas Volcano, it is the perfect base for an active vacation, with a little sun and sand thrown in just to smooth out the edges.
Casa de Las Aves is furnished with your comfort in mind. The two master suites have luxurious king beds and outrageously comfortable American-style mattresses. Both masters have air conditioning, en-suite baths, and walk-in closets. There is also a bonus room with bunk beds in case your children are vacationing with you.
A lovely casita is situated on the property, just a short stroll from the main house. It has its own kitchen, bath, and laundry and is available to rent as an additional bedroom.
This makes the house and casita the perfect rental for three couples traveling together. The casita's additional charge is $75 per night.
If you love cooking, you will find everything you need in the chef’s kitchen with its granite countertops and luxury stainless appliances. Your gourmet dinners are bound to be a success. Dining can be quick on a stool at the kitchen counter, formal at the six-person indoor dining table, or al fresco on the patio. There is truly something for everyone!
The property is surrounded by incredible views and stunning nature, with many full-grown native trees that tropical birds always visit. Toucans, Montezuma oropendolas, Motmots, Amazon parrots, and more are common at Casa de Las Aves. Colorful flowery bushes attract beautiful butterflies and hummingbirds and can be studied from close by. Casa de Las Aves is a true bird lovers’ gem, where you will wake up in the morning to the sounds of Nature, a great way to start a wonderful new day in paradise.
Inside the community are several nature walkways, which are lovely to walk just from the house straight into nature. You can stroll down to a newly built communal rancho with fantastic canyon views—a super quiet place to relax and unwind. Bring your picnic basket for a wonderful lunch while gazing into infinity. Casa de las Aves has it all right here; there is no need to drive to a National Park.
Our property managers, Klaas and Sandra de Graaf, a multilingual (English-Dutch-Spanish) couple from The Netherlands, are ready to welcome you to Casa de Las Aves and will do everything they can to make your stay a great success. As an additional service to our house guests, they offer a fee-based airport pick-up and drop-off to help you avoid the potential hassles involved in the transitions into and out of your time in Costa Rica (something to consider when you have night-time travel plans, particularly but a nice comfort to have in any event). They also provide car rentals and tours to all corners of the country, including the Poas and Arenal volcanoes, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a private Catamaran Sailing tour, a visit to an Organic Coffee farm, all kinds of adventurous activities, and tours custom-made to our guests' requests throughout Costa Rica.
Everything is set up to your ease, from grocery service to having your fridge stocked with your favorite groceries upon arrival, a home-cooked meal ready for you on your arrival day, and a professional, relaxing massage at the house. Our house managers are ready to serve.
Casa de Las Aves offers everything to make your Costa Rican adventure a memorable experience. It is a perfect place to be, and it is waiting for you to spend your well-deserved vacation.
Weekly cleaning is included for guests who stay longer than 14 days. Our wonderful housekeeper, Helen, is a jewel.

The standard rate is based on two people. Additional guests pay $15 per person per night extra. The casita can be rented together with the main house for $75 per night extra.
